Big Box Project
Commissioned by the Youth Service Department of Hertfordshire County
Council, the Big Box Project aims to develop drama as a tool in the
delivery of the curriculum as part of Youth Service provision in Hertfordshire.
The project’s main objective is to foster and mentor youth workers
to create a pool of drama expertise able to work with young people
and workers within the Youth Service in Hertfordshire.
The Team
Project Director : Andy Potter
A long-term freelance associate of Box Clever, Andy has previously
directed several tours of the Boxed Shakespeares (Romeo & Juliet,
Macbeth and Twelfth Night) and the company’s acclaimed anti-bullying
piece – Mark and the Marked. His acting credits for the company
include creating the roles of the Storyteller/Shylock in The Boxed
Merchant of Venice and the Christ-like ‘H’ in A Very Private
Passion. From 2000 to 2004, Andy was the Artistic Director of Wildcard
Theatre Company where his work included directing his own adaptation
of Macbeth, Richard III, Hiawatha, Gawain & The Green Knight and
The Book of Genesis. For Wildcard he also created and performed a
one-man telling of the Trojan War (Iliad) based on the writings of
Christopher Logue and Elizabeth Cook.
Project Manager : Alice Bartlett
Alice began her professional career as a ventriloquist in Las Vegas,
before graduating from Manchester University with a drama degree in
1998. Since then she has been resident Assistant Director at West
Yorkshire Playhouse and Associate Director at Harrogate Theatre and
most recently Basingstoke Haymarket. In the past 6 years she has directed
over 50 productions of all shapes and sizes for companies including
Basingstoke Haymarket, Bolton Octagon, Bradford Alhambra, Contact
Theatre, Harrogate Theatre, Hull Truck and Wakefield Theatre Royal.
Alice has also written 2 plays - Such a Curious Dream and Silence
of a Dale- and has recently adapted the latter into a film for BBC
television.
