box clever theatre - about us

about us

Box Clever is a writer-led theatre company dedicated to the creation of high quality contemporary theatre for young people. It works in a visceral, challenging and engaging way so as to give young people a window on the world in all its diversity, and a focus for thought and discussion about a broad range of issues.  It produces new plays for theatre audiences, targeting the 14-25 year old age group, and provides bespoke theatre projects with an emphasis on community and social issues.   Box Clever regularly collaborates with recognised and respected artists to achieve its objectives.

In the words of its founder and artistic director, “ Box Clever allows young people, particularly those in disadvantaged areas, to encounter theatre of the highest possible quality that speaks to them directly about issues that are of real and immediate concern in their lives.”

It is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status and its primary objective is to advance education for the public benefit by the promotion of the arts, in particular but not exclusively, the art of drama.

NEW WRITING
All productions in Box Clever's repertoire are written by Michael Wicherek (pronounced ‘Ve-heh-rek’).  The company’s vision and style - our interest in social issues and real-life stories, combined with a deeply-held belief in the essential link between art and life – largely reflect the background and events that have influenced our director from an early age.

You can find out more about Michael on his new website which is currently under construction.
